What is igfxpers.exe? Should I Remove it?

Online games and applications are taking the world through a digital revolution. To support such a digital revolution the program developers are constantly working towards upgradation of the compatibility and performance of the software installed on the laptops and computers.

Integrated Graphics Card is one such software that helps in the expansion and better performance of the computer. The Graphics Card has many pre-installed processes that may or may not be that useful for all the users. Intel is one of the leading company’ in developing such Graphic cards and processors.

One of the many such processes is Igfxpers.exe. To know more about this process keep on reading:

What is Igfxpers.exe?

It is one of the many processes installed with the NVIDIA Graphics Card to provide additional space and configuration to the computers and laptops. This Persistence Module developed by Intel helps to manage the display resolution settings when the monitor is turned off or disconnected due to some technical errors.

Although many users consider this process to be useless for Windows 7 or 8.1 it proves to be essential for Notebook. The file is stored in the C drive of the computer. It takes a storage space of 0.25MB. It is auto-downloaded with the Intel Common User Interface.

One of its main drawbacks is that it consumes high power of CPU and RAM. Intel has given an option to safely disable it from the system although it is not recommended by the company to enact it.

Characteristics

  • Full form: Intel Graphics Persistence Module
  • Storage Location: C drive (C:\windows\system32)
  • Size of the File: 0.25MB
  • Is it necessary: It is a mandatory file that helps in the smooth functioning of the processor.

Why is it needed?

Any operating system works towards delivering good display resolution and the best picture quality to its users. This process basically does this for the operating system.

In the new fast generation  we want to share things with our friends, colleagues, etc. Technology has made it possible to share the screen with others with the help of different applications. This process is needed to adjust changes in the display settings.

When the external monitors are disconnected this process applies back default settings. The connections without the process can cause errors to the system.

Uses

The one and the only use of this process is to restore the nominal display resolution settings of the screen the monitor is reconnected after some time. This proves to be very useful for Notebook.

Advantages

Though most of the users recommend it to stop functioning there is also an advantage of using it. Using this process, the file automatically adjusts the display resolution in the Notebook when the monitor is connected to some external system. It safely returns the original display of the Notebook once disconnected.

Disadvantages

It is harmless or non-malicious in nature but there are some disadvantages to it as well. They are as follows:

  • It consumes high CPU and RAM power without any productivity.
  • There is a threat of disguised malware or viruses to enter the system under its name.

Note- Internal scan or System scan can detect such malware and it should be immediately removed from the system by uninstallation of those processes.

  • Cybercriminals can take advantage of new users or people having limited knowledge about computers to access or insert some malicious programs in the software.

Reasons behind errors in the file

  1. The first and the main reason for such errors is duplicacy. Sometimes when the original file is replaced with a corrupted one then such errors can affect the functioning. Reinstallation can fix this error.
  2. The second one is the attack by some unauthorized virus and malware which disrupts the actual functions and so such errors occur.
  3. It is deemed to be unimportant for the system. If it is manually deleted from the system then it may cause such errors.

How can these errors be cured?

There are a few things that can be done to eradicate such errors.

    1. Cleaning the junk and temporary files from the system: Deleting such unwanted files can resolve the problem of slowing the system.
  • Using good Antivirus: This is one of the most important things to keep your computer or laptop safe from any such errors or viruses.
  • Using scannow command: This command helps to scan and repair the corrupted files.

Upgradation of the system time is the key to keep the system error-free.

How to Install the process?

The process is developed by Intel and is pre-installed with NVIDIA Graphics Card to be attached to the motherboard. It cannot be installed externally. It can be enabled again if was disabled earlier with the help of the following steps:

  1. In the Run command use Msconfig.
  2. Click on the “Startup” tab.
  3. Click on the checkbox for the Intel Common User Interface option.
  4. Click on Apply.
  5. Click on Ok.
  6. Restart the computer and it will be enabled.

How to disable or uninstall this process?

As mentioned earlier, this process is not very necessary or productive for the system so it can be disabled through Msconfig. The steps are as follows:-

  1. In the Run command use Msconfig.
  2. Click on the “Startup” tab.
  3. Uncheck the box for the Intel Common User Interface option.
  4. Click on Apply.
  5. Click on Ok.
  6. Restart the computer and the changes will be effectively applied.

Although it’s a harmless process attached to the Graphics Card still many users recommend it to stop it’s functioning to avoid any kind errors that may occur because of the process.
